The Gatwick International Food Festival is the brain child of local Crawley entropreneur Azam Riydard who runs The ClubHouse in Langely Green. The event not only provides opportunity for the wider Crawley Community to enjoy cuisine from across the globe, but is also desiged to raise funds for the charity known as ‘Forgotten Women’.
Azam created and designed the Gatwick International Food Festival as a family fun day with food stalls from across the world, combined with a cooking stage hosting food challenges, a cooking show, a fun fair and other fun filled activities.
All of the funds raised from the Gatwick International Food festival go directly to chairty ‘Forgotten Women. Their aim is to help and empower women suffering deep poverty around the world, so they can earn with their own hands, in-turn making them more independent and able to protect their dignity and provide support for their family.
Forgotten Women is a charity run by women for women, a UK based organisation dedicated to helping women in crisis and emergencies, lifting them out of poverty and championing equality and rights for marginalised girls and women. The charity was set up after witnessing first-hand the ‘sex for aid’ violations and manipulation of women in vulnerable situations.
“It is the unbearable suffering and exploitation of vulnerable women around the world, that they chose to make a difference through Forgotten Women.
We envision a world where every woman is given the opportunity to live a life free from humiliation, poverty and abuse. A world in which women are free to preserve their dignity, health, well-being and economic independence.”
