Prompt Fire Alarm Installation Sees Waking Watch Removed to Improve Safety Within High Risk High Rise Residential Buildings
Oander has been hard at work trying to improve safety within high risk high rise residential buildings. We have been supporting our clients on a number of high-rise residential tower blocks which have been identified with unsafe cladding and other inherent fire safety breaches resulting in the introduction of a 24/7 waking watch being deployed.
Working closely with Block Management (UK) Limited, the block’s managing agents, Oander have been able to assist in mobilising and leading the installation of a new wireless radio fire alarm system within the communal areas and individual dwellings. Combined with addressing the fire compartmentation issues in tandem, this enabled the fire risk assessor to confirm and remove the waking watch requirement.
As a direct result, we have been able to significantly reduce the leaseholder’s immediate costs whilst we administer the application for funding support via the government’s Building Safety Fund (BSF).
The fund has been set up by central government to provide leaseholders the opportunity, on a first come, first serve basis to apply for funding to assist in undertaking remedial works to the external façade of their building.
Oander is currently supporting three leaseholder groups in applying and seeking to obtain funding from the BSF, where available funds have recently been increased to £3.5bn following the most recent announcement from the UK government.
With many blocks now requiring a waking watch, funding is also available to be applied for specifically to contribute to the cost of this requirement.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the contractor, Eastern Power Systems (EPS) for delivering these works promptly, safely and engaging with the resident to ensure they were delivered in the least disruptive manner.
