Oander have recently and successfully completed the asbestos removal and demolition of an underutilised and redundant building on the St Marks Hospital, Maidenhead estate.
The project was delivered on behalf of NHS Property Services, which saw Oander provide the complete turnkey service as lead consultant which consisted of Project Management, Principal Designer, Contract Administration and Construction Manager.
This single storey building was located in the centre of the hospital site, which required extensive stakeholder engagement along with proactive traffic management which included road / car park closures with diversions of the existing traffic and pedestrian routes at the site to ensure a safe and suitable break between those visiting the site and those undertaking the demolition.
The project was successfully delivered ahead of programme and with minimal disruption to the wider estate and those visiting the hospital.
Whilst the building was safely demolished, it was decided that the existing concrete slab would be retained as this gave the wider estate future opportunity to use the area as storage and/or location to place containers on the former building footprint, without the need to install further hard standings.
With over 95% of the materials reclaimed and recycled, the environmental impact of the demolition and materials placed into landfill was significantly reduced.
The Oander team would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those involved including demolition and asbestos removal specialist, CG Comely & Sons, estate tenant, Berkshire Healthcare Trust and our Employer, NHS Property Services.
