Oander’s Ben Davies was delighted to be invited to present the Volunteer of the Year at the Crawley Community Awards last Tuesday, at The Hawth Crawley.
The Crawley Community Awards are a local award, organised by Crawley Borough Council in association with The Hawth and the Crawley Observer, along with business sponsors, such as ourselves. The awards recognise and reward people who live, work, volunteer or study in the Crawley Borough who give up their time, talents and skills to help and support others in their community and those who have trained, worked and put all their efforts into making real achievements.
A staggering 771 nominations for teams and individuals were received, with the shortlist produced across a range of categories including Volunteer, Sports Team, Group Achievement, Local Hero, Community Group, Education, Charity, Inspiration, Culture and Community Champions to name but a few.
Commenting on the awards, Ben said “I was quite taken aback when you hear all the fantastic stories and hard work of those across the Borough, and somewhat makes me proud to call Crawley as my hometown. Just in the category we supported, which was won by Catherine Howe, who volunteers seven days a week collecting from supermarkets on behalf of Giving Back Crawley and helps four times a week to cook hot meals for the homeless in the town. She also delivers food parcels and hot meals to families in temporary accommodation and arranges collections for Crawley Free Shop and Ten Little Toes.”
Oander would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners and those shortlisted and to celebrate their hard work, commitment and kindness.
